…after the trial run.  Not because it wasn’t good.  It was.  But because it is overpriced.  The content on the Reader is available free online.   Online content is not delivered in as pleasing a format, where reading the newspaper on the computer (with the Reader) is as close to sitting down with a real paper as I’ve experienced.  But why pay $20/month for the pleasure?

So, nice try New York Times.  I really enjoyed the Reader experience.  Now, drop the price and put the advertisements back in the paper (so you can still make money) and I might try it again.

The Reader, or something like it, is definitely a move in the right direction for newspapers.  It’s just not quite arrived at the destination it seeks–where readers get a reasonably-enjoyable newspaper experience and the newspaper is able to make enough money to deliver its content.
